Tottenham Hotspur’s club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele has faced a difficult period at the London club since Nuno Espirito Santo’s takeover as manager. Ndombele, 24, made 33 league appearances last season, contributing three goals and two assists along the way. The Frenchman cost Spurs £54m from Lyon in 2019 but has had difficulties under different management, from Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason and now Nuno. The 47-year-old boss opted to not include him in any matchday squad for three pre-season friendlies as the Portuguese considered it was not the right moment for the midfielder to be selected. Nuno revealed in his press-conference the reason as to why he was not considered for action in the European fixture was ‘because he was not part of the list.’ Ahead of the encounter with Wolves on Sunday, Nuno confirmed the expected.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “I will be honest with you, Tanguy is not going to be involved on Sunday.”
It is claimed that in the past, an issue of motivation from the Frenchman was the reason why he had been sidelined.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “What happened in the past, I can’t even think about, I don’t mention out of respect. I don’t want to go much further than that but it has to come from himself. We already had a chance to talk but it must come from himself. I said it before, my job here is not to convince players to play for Tottenham Hotspur, it is to prepare players to play for Tottenham Hotspur.”
The midfielder is now thought to be forcing a move out of the North London club.
