Southampton defender Romain Perraud believes “everything is possible” as his side prepare for a daunting clash with Manchester United at St Mary’s stadium on Sunday. United confidently dispatched Leeds United in their opening Premier League fixture at Old Trafford with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba producing stellar displays. In contrast, Southampton endured a difficult time during their first game of the season, losing 3-1 to Everton away from home. Romain Perraud, who is preparing to face Manchester United for the first time after joining Southampton from Brest this summer, admits it will be a big challenge to take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’ s side, who he believes will be challenging for the Premier League title.
Romain Perraud said:“Big, big challenge for us and a big challenge for me, if I play. Manchester United has many, many great players. I think this year they will fight for the title. So I think it is an exciting challenge for me, for us because it’s a great team and we need to make a great match for our fans, because it’s the first time in St Mary’s Stadium for everybody.”
Perraud, however, has not ruled out his team’s chances of getting a result, even though he admits there is a big disparity between the two teams.
Romain Perraud said: “Okay it will be hard, but in one game everything is possible. I think we don’t fight in the same category with Manchester United. We don’t play the same championship. They play to win the title, and us we play to stay here, to make the best season possible.”
Perraud could go up against United’s new summer recruit Jadon Sancho, who is looking to make his full-debut against Southampton after a cameo appearance against Leeds. United will be looking to capitalise on Southampton’s poor form with the Saints winning just three of their last ten Premier League games.
