LEICESTER City boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted “there’s nothing finalised yet” but hopes outgoing Saints defender Jannik Vestergaard could be available for the weekend. The great Dane is up in Leicester today completing a move to the FA Cup winning Foxes and would re-join ex-Saints teammate Ryan Bertrand upon completion of the deal. With a serious injury to Wes Fofana that will rule the Frenchman out until 2022, Rodgers is understandably keen to get another experienced defender through the door – hence the speed of this move materialising. It’s only a £15m fee for the 29-year-old European Championship 2020 semi-finalist, and they’ll hope to get maximum value for their money with an appearance in their Premier League season opener at home to Wolves on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers admitted: “There’s nothing finalised as of yet, but yeah as soon as that happens, and hopefully it does, we’ll be able to confirm that.”

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers Asked if he hopes he will be available for selection,

Brendan Rodgers said: “Yeah, we’ll have to wait and see, as I said the clubs have been in contact. We’ve got permission for him to be up here (in Leicester) and now hopefully everything can be organised and then we’ll see if he’s available for the weekend.”

Saints don’t meet Leicester until the start of December when Rodgers’ side, who defeated Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend, visit St Mary’s.
