Bryan Robson had already got multiple managerial offers from many championships and premier league to manage them. The biggest name amongst them was Sunderland who had chased Robson openly. But Robson made a call in winter that despite injury concerns and lack of game time he would stick it out with United and ensure that the club would win a premier league medal.

But as the managerial positions slipped away, United’s form followed suit too. They had only won two points in their previous three games and could not afford a slip-up. Robson still needed four appearances that season from the remaining eight games to ensure that he gets a premier league medal should the Red Devils clinch the title. But with stakes high, Alex Ferguson was in no mood to drop Lee Sharpe. They had a trip to Highbury on cards on the same night that their rivals Aston Villa and Norwich went head to head.

There was a real chance that Robson would not be able to get the four caps that he needed and would end up with no premier league medal that season.
