Olivier Giroud said “Ziyech is a great player. We have had a great connection even though we have played few games together. He has a top left foot, has experience and he is very good technically. It would be nice to play with him again.”
There’s been no concrete developments in a move for Ziyech, who remained coy about his future when he said that he is “feeling sharp” ahead of the new Premier League season with Chelsea following their pre-season victory over Bournemouth last week.
Hakim Ziyech said “I’m feeling great, I feel sharp and I’m looking forward to the next game.”
So, as of this moment, a reunion looks unlikely, but with there still a lot of time left in the transfer window, anything can happen.
Giroud has signed a two-year contract with a further option of another year at the Rossoneri, should Stefano Poli’s side want to keep the veteran striker at the club longer than his initial stay. Meanwhile, Ziyech, who has had a difficult start to his Chelsea career after joining the west London outfit at the beginning of last summer’s transfer window, has been linked with a move to the Serie A giants for some time now. Although he helped his side win the Champions League in May, the Moroccan has struggled to adapt to English football thus far, featuring sporadically last season across just 39 games in all competitions. A number of those appearances came from the bench as – similar to Giroud- the midfielder was used sporadically by new Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel. However, there’s no doubting that the 28-year-old is an extremely talented footballer – something Giroud agrees with.
