David an excellent 1-0 win today at Brentford. What did you make of the performance?
Quite good in the first half, I thought we did some good stuff. Pleased because we are not at full tilt yet but we are getting there, we came here and saw this as being a really tough game, probably tougher than even the game last week at Celtic and it proved to be but I am pleased we got a result.
That is a fourth consecutive win in pre-season I know you said results are not the be-all and end-all but things are going well.
No, no, results are not [important] and we don’t get carried away with results. We have to try and build a better team. I want to try and build a better club, everything to do with it and the way to do it is to win, and that gives us a chance to keep it going.
Said Benrahma back at his old club scored a really special goal today.
Yeah, it was good, he has been waiting on that one for a year and we have as well. He practices it a lot and today he hit the target and maybe fitting that he did it here.
Of course, he scored at Celtic as well last week.
Yeah, we have a lot of hope he will find his goalscoring touch and assists and a bit to do with his game. We want good competition and hopefully, we have lots of players threatening to score goals this season.
This was a different game to Celtic but were you happy with the clean sheet and that side of it today?
The second half I decided we were going to make a few changes but we did not have many subs and quite a few of the subs today had played last night for the Under-23s so it meant that I did not really have many options. But I wanted to give the players as close to 90 minutes [as possible] instead of messing them around as I think the feeling of having the minutes before the season starts is good. Overall glad to get them back in and get the players some minutes, the clean sheet was good but again it will be the season that really matters and we want to keep clean sheets then.
Two weeks out from the start of the season are you happy with where the team is?
Bits today were not so good but I think overall there is lots of it I am really pleased with. Conor played really well today, we played Ben Johnson out of position, one higher up on the wide right today because we did not have Jarrod [Bowen], we did not have Angelo [Ogbonna] so we were having to look and see what we might have to do at different times during the season so it gives me a chance to try one or two things out.
Good to see West Ham fans back today. We are at home against Atalanta next weekend where we will have many more home fans back, you must be looking forward to that?
We are looking forward to it and we hope they are looking forward to seeing a new positive West Ham team.
