Sander Berge’s future will become clearer in the coming days with the midfielder due to return to Sheffield. Manager Slavisa Jokanovic plans to holds talks with the midfielder to discover his intentions ahead of the new season, after a series of reports linking him with a move away. The 23-year-old has been rehabilitating abroad but was due back this week. Jokanovic, his staff and the first team squad have been isolating after a player tested positive for covid during their recent trip to Spain. However, they return to training this weekend with two weeks of pre-season to go before the Championship opener at home to Birmingham on August 7.
Slavisa Jokanovic said: “I expect to see him when we come back in England. I will have an opportunity to talk with him and to understand if these things are true. We will see what happens. This club advised me one month ago the possibility exists that he will be one of the guys who can leave the club. I hope that will not happen. At the moment, as we speak, he is still a Sheffield United player and I am seriously thinking about how I use him.”
It is not known if Berge will be training immediately with the players or if he needs to complete a quarantine process following his arrival in the UK. He will also undergo the necessary covid tests and checks before being welcomed back into the Shirecliffe bubble. He had been the subject of intense transfer speculation linking him with interest from both Arsenal and Napoli.
