Newcastle United stars have urged people in the North East to have their Covid-19 vaccinations after receiving their own jabs. Staff and players including Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark were vaccinated as part of a pop-up event organised by the Newcastle GP Services and Newcastle City Counci l. The event, held on Wednesday morning at the club’s Training Centre in Benton, is one of many happening in Newcastle every day, with four specially converted ‘vaccine buses’ touring the city throughout the week, along with pop-up community services and walk-in appointments at larger vaccine centres.

Newcastle United midfielder, Isaac Hayden said: “I went to the drop-in session when the vaccine bus was at St. James’ Park recently and I was in and out so quickly. It was very well organised. I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t had their jab, or who needs their second jab, to have it as soon as they can and protect themselves as we hopefully return to some normality. The more barriers we can create to this virus the better. I know a lot of people have got different opinions on it, but in my opinion it’s the right thing to do. I definitely don’t want to have the virus again – it’s awful.”

Defender Ciaran Clark said: “I think it’s an important time for people to get their jabs done. I think everyone’s sick of being in lockdown and isolating, and it’s a way to move forward and keep people safe.”

Federico Fernandez added: “The young need to stand up and show that it’s important for everyone.”
