The Tokyo Olympics have gotten underway in Japan and one of the most exciting medals up for grabs will be the 4x100m relay race, with the finals of both the men’s and women’s sprints taking place on August 6. Manchester United players will be gearing up for the new Premier League season throughout the duration of the Summer Games, which come to a conclusion six days before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side face rivals Leeds in their opening Premier League fixture. Although United are firmly focused on that first game of the season, academy talent Anthony Elanga is excited for the world sporting event and revealed which event he would take part in if he was an Olympian.
Anthony Elanga said: “I’m good at both 100m and 1500m. I love a relay too and if I had to pick my own team, it’d be a serious team.”
Elanga’s teammate Jesse Lingard interrupted the youngster suggesting that he would be best suited to the long jump or the 4x100m relay. When quizzed on who his relay quartet would consist of,
Anthony Elanga added: “[At the] start we’ll have Rashy. He’d make sure we blast out the blocks. Then we’ll have me. Third, we’ll have Teds; Teden Mengi. And then last, Jamo [Daniel James]. No one is beating us. It’s a very, very pacy team. We’ll have to sort it out – let’s chat to the coaches.”
A quartet of Rashford, Elanga, Mengi and James would take some beating if the Premier League teams were to do a 4x100m relay race. Elanga scored 12 goals in 22 appearances last season, mostly at U23 level, though he scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-1 victory over Wolves on the last day of the season.
