Kasper Schmeichel cannot wait for the Euro 2020 semi-finals at Wembley after Denmark booked their place with a victory over the Czech Republic. Denmark took a two-goal lead into half-time as goals from Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg put them in command. But Patrik Schick pulled a goal back after the restart to give the Czechs hope of a comeback. However, Denmark held out to secure a 2-1 win and Kasper Hjulmand’s side will now face England or Ukraine in the semis. Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel took to Twitter late on Saturday night to praise the Denmark fans for their support.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “Thank you to all Danes who have taken the trip with us. You helped to make the experience even wilder. Semifinals at Wembley – it’s going wild.”
Schmeichel is hoping to emulate the heroics of his father Peter who won with their country in 1992 as they secured a 2-0 win over Germany. But son Kasper has revealed to Sky Sports that’s he’s not even spoken to his dad about his history-making exploits or asked for any advice ahead of his opportunity to progress in the competition and write his own name in the international history books.
Kasper Schmeichel said: “No I haven’t really spoken to him about his experiences in 1992. I think any kid growing up in Denmark knows everything about ‘92 and the legend that has been passed on about this team. It’s something we have all grown up with and I don’t think it’s different for me than anyone else really.”
