Slavisa Jokanovic says he is not expecting Jack O’Connell to be part of his pre-season plans as the defender continues his recovery from injury. The 27-year-old missed all but two of United’s matches last season, after needing surgery on a knee injury he suffered in training.

Slavisa Jokanovic said: “Jack has come back from New York. From the medical department I don’t have any feedback that he will be ready soon to start working with me. Right now he is not in my plans. I don’t expect him to be available for this pre-season, this is not the feedback I am getting from the medical department.”

The news will come as a huge blow to supporters, who are keen to see him in a United shirt once again. Jokanovic was officially unveiled to the media today during a special event at Bramall Lane.
