Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has revealed how his recovery approach has been altered over the past few years to deal with fitness concerns. Silva, who joined the Blues on an initial one-year deal last summer following his contract expiring at Paris Saint-Germain, massively impressed during his first campaign in the Premier League.
Thiago Silva said: “From now on I have to live every season. We know that our fitness is not the same of two, three years ago. The time to recover between matches changes a lot. But I will continue to prepare to reach my dreams. The World Cup is still pending. I knew I couldn’t carry on (when he suffered the injury against Man City), I put my head down and covered it with the shirt … I had lost last year’s final, then I left with the score 0-0. I asked God to win it and that the injury wasn’t serious so I could play for Brazil. It is impossible not to think of the World Cup.”
After clinching the new deal, Blues director
Marina Granovskaia said: “When we brought Thiago Silva in last summer, we knew we were adding a world-class player to the squad. Thiago has duly shown everyone at Chelsea his immense quality throughout this season, and he has had a huge influence on and off the pitch for us. We said when he signed that we hoped Thiago would add new trophies to his impressive list of honours and he has done just that with our success in the Champions League this weekend. We now hope that he carries on in exactly the same fashion in the coming year.”
