It’s not just Leicester City who will be keeping a close eye on goalkeeper Danny Ward at Euro 2020. The Foxes stopper has played second fiddle to Kasper Schmeichel since his arrival at the King Power Stadium from Liverpool in the summer of 2018. Last season, Ward made just five appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side last season, all in cup competitions. But it is a different story with Wales, with Ward winning his 10th cap for his country in their 1-1 draw with Switzerland at the weekend. City would almost certainly expect to make a profit on Ward, particularly with such a sizeable sell-on clause hanging over the 27-year-old, who opened up about his lack of game time with Leicester at the weekend.

Danny Ward said: It is difficult because ultimately goalkeepers are no different to outfield players – everyone wants to play. People get into football to play football. My dilemma at Leicester has been that Kasper Schmeichel has been brilliant for a number of seasons I’ve been there. So I can have no complaints. It’s part and parcel of being a goalkeeper. Everyone wants to play but there’s only one shirt at the end of the day and sometimes you have to swallow your medicine and keep working hard and hope that you will get a chance.”
