Romelu Lukaku has revealed he is staying at Inter Milan this summer despite heavy speculation linking him with a return to the Premier League with Manchester City.
Romelu Lukaku said: “Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”
City are on the hunt for a striker this summer following the departure of Sergio Aguero and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said he is confident of the club replace their record goalscorer.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “We lose a very important legend in Sergio Aguero, very hard shoes to fill, but I’m confident we will find the right player to fill those shoes. There’s other areas within the team that obviously need investment, not too many, it’s not about numbers. It’s about the quality and the squad is a phenomenal squad. You don’t win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final if you don’t have an incredible squad and we have that. We will bring quality into the squad in a couple of key positions.”
Lukaku has enjoyed an excellent season in Italy, with his 24 goals and 10 assists in 36 league games helping to fire Inter to their first Scudetto in a decade and put an end to Juventus’ stranglehold on Serie A. Despite their success, however, Inter have a myriad of financial troubles and seemingly need to raise funds through player sales this summer to stay afloat. The Belgian has been heavily linked with a return to England after leaving Manchester United in 2019, with City and Chelsea said to be interested. However, Lukaku has made it clear he won’t be leaving the San Siro this summer.
