Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert has thanked Strasbourg after his loan spell with the Ligue 1 club came to an end. Guilbert joined Strasbourg on loan for the rest of the season in the January transfer window, returning to France 18 months after arriving at Villa Park. With his loan spell having finished with a 1-1 draw against Lorient on the final day of the season on Sunday, Guilbert took to Instagram to thank Strasbourg supporters.
Frederic Guilbert said: “This is the end of this loan, I wanted to thank you for always being behind us in the good times as in the bad times! I would have liked to have taken the club higher in the standings because that’s not where the club should be, but we still achieved the end goal. A thousand thanks for your messages and your support. And thank you to this wonderful group. Make way for vacation.”
Guilbert, who has two years remaining on his contract, has been able to fill in on both sides of the defence while at Villa and earlier in his career.
