Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is even more motivated to continue with his job at the King Power Stadium after just missing out on the Champions League. After his achievements in getting City to challenge at the top, Rodgers has been linked with a move to the vacant hotseat at Spurs, but says he will be back after the summer to have another go at finishing in the top four.
Brendan Rodgers said: “They (the City fans) need have no worries about myself. I absolutely love it here at Leicester City, even more so now that we’ve just missed out. It motivates me even more to be here to help the club and push the club towards that level. We’ll go away, reflect on a great season, we’ll plan and get ready to make an exciting season with us all back together again. That’s my message.”
Before that reflection on an excellent season for the club, in which they lifted the FA Cup for the first time and improved on their tally of points, and before they start planning for the new campaign, Rodgers said City will have a low moment they have to get over. City led 2-1 with 15 minutes to go thanks to a pair of Jamie Vardy penalties, but twice conceded from set-pieces, with Wesley Fofana off injured after 20 minutes, and then conceded twice more from counter-attacks at the death.
Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m bitterly disappointed. It hurts at the moment and probably will do for a few days. I know when I look back on the season and reflect on what the players have given, despite the obstacles we’ve had with injuries and everything else, I’ll have great pride in what they’ve achieved this season. Currently it’s disappointing having been 2-1 up in the game and then losing it at the end. I didn’t think we were brilliant in the game but we showed moments of quality, Vards has done great for the penalties and showed great composure to get us in front of the game. We’ve conceded two goals that are disappointing. We had issues at the beginning of the season, when we were missing players of the profile, and having Jonny and Wesley out, we didn’t have the same authority at set-pieces and ultimately we conceded two.”
