Wednesday’s victory over Burnley at Turf Moor offered a timely reminder of the value of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Emerging from the bench late on, the Englishman bagged his first goal of the season – a first, in fact, since the 5-3 win over Chelsea last July that preceded the award of the Premier League title. His latest strike was arguably the more important of the two given the implications around goal difference going into the final day of this campaign But, as he illustrated in an interview with the club’s official website this week, his summer won’t be characterised by a desperate search for a move elsewhere.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlin said: “I am absolute delighted to be a part of this team and play for this football club, and that’s what I absolutely want to do. That’s all I’ve been focusing on really, trying to make sure I work as hard as I can for the boys and keep training well, keep giving the manager decisions to make.”
And with Liverpool in no big rush to move the midfielder on, either, it is entirely possible that his Anfield story will extend beyond the conclusion of this season.
