Triumphant Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers hopes Gary Lineker will be crying “tears of happiness” after the Foxes’ famous FA Cup triumph. City legend Lineker broke down during the BBC’s coverage of the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley as the club secured the trophy for the first time in their history. Lineker struggled to keep his emotions in check after watching his boyhood club secure a memorable victory in what has been a remarkable season for the club.
Brendan Rodgers said: “Hopefully, it will be tears of happiness on the way home.”
And
Gary Lineker responded: “Very much so Brendan, certainly at the final whistle.”
During the coverage, and with his voice breaking,
Gary Lineker said: “Wow. They’ve done it. Four times they reached the final. In Leicester’s 137 years they’ve finally won the FA Cup! You won’t hear me moan about VAR again. They’re extraordinary scenes for all the supporters here. It’s the one they wanted. They won the Premier League of course, but this is a trophy that escaped them for so long. My dad went to all four finals. I wish he was still here. I hope he’s watching somewhere. I hope so.”
