Christian Benteke says that Crystal Palace teammate Eberechi Eze “brought his magic” during the 2-0 win over Sheffield United. Eze went on a number of slaloming runs that resulted in both an assist for Benteke in the first minutes of the game and his own goal as the game drew to a close.
Christian Benteke said: “Yes, yes, it was going in. But when you play these kind of games sometimes you need that bit of luck and I think we had two goals with deflections, but we have to take them and move forward. I think when we scored the first goal, the most important thing was to score a second as quick as possible. But as you know, the Premier League is never easy and I think we had a lack of some composure in the final third. But Eze brought his magic and after that the game was over.”
The win for Palace makes them mathematically safe from relegation this season – though Roy Hodgson admitted after the game that the team have not been thinking about getting drawn into a fight at the bottom of the table for some time. Benteke insisted, however, that it was an important three points for Palace to take to ensure their safety.
Christian Benteke added: “I think it was important to get those three points this afternoon. Because obviously we played against some strong teams in recent weeks and it was important to be back on track.”
