Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has revealed he was told off by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. During a 4-0 thumping of Wolves by the Reds at Anfield in December, Coady went down in the hosts’ penalty area and a spot-kick was given by referee Craig Pawson. However, closer inspection by video assistant referee technology showed there was no contact on Coady by Liverpool forward Sadio Mane
Conor Coady said: “I got some serious stick for that!” As the ball comes in, you know when you’re thinking someone is going to touch you, as I’m thinking that he (Mane) is going to touch me, he never, he moved his foot (away) dead quick. So I go down and I was hoping that the referee wouldn’t blow his whistle. The next minute, the whistle goes and I just put my head down into the turf and thought ‘oh for f**** sake’. So I’m thinking they’re obviously going to see it on VAR. I’m walking back and all the Liverpool players are giving me stick, I just put my head down and walked back. I remember as I’m walking back Salah, of all people, said to me ‘you can’t do that, my friend’. I didn’t even appeal about it. My family gave me a bit of stick and said ‘what are you doing?!?’ I looked stupid.”
