Were you disappointed with both goals coming from play out wide?
I cannot share your view. It was a penalty. There is no point. The second goal, in spite of being the opposite side of my bench, maybe I’m wrong, but I have the feeling that a fresh Coleman got behind our wingback and made the cross and from midfield appeared and finished. That is the view from the bench.
Michael Oliver has given eight penalties against your teams – is that becoming an issue?
I think not to protest should be something to praise and not something to consider a negative thing. At least in what we have in every meeting with the football authorities, before matches when captain and one coach, they say don’t surround the referee. Leave the referee alone, let him make the decision. On top of that I think we all start having a feeling of what a VAR is. I think it is very difficult for VAR to go against a referee decision. I believe they don’t like to expose each other. I believe the maximum they like to tell the referee come on, come and have a look so I don’t think they like to go against. So when Mr Oliver went with such a high speed to the penalty spot I don’t think there is any point in campaigning too much.
Can you give us an update on Harry Kane’s condition?
I don’t know much. I don’t have much to say. I don’t want to feed any speculation, I don’t want to be stupidly optimistic of saying nothing. Something, that something is going to stop him play the next match or final I don’t know. In this moment I don’t know. I don’t even think he knows. I believe that tomorrow we will see a reaction. have more details, diagnosis and then probably in the press conference before Southampton I believe that Tuesday is the right moment to inform you about Harry.
Is he on crutches or will he have a scan tomorrow?
I don’t think it is crutches but I don’t know but I left the dressing room when the players arrived. I said a quick hello to them and then I left to do press. If he did that then it is precaution, it is safety. I don’t know.
Do you think the team responded well to your changes?
I think it’s not about the changes. It’s not about the system. It’s a system that we played before, it’s a system that many teams they play. It’s a system that you could feel that Everton, even defending in a 4-4-2 they were dealing with three and two wing-backs. I don’t think it’s about the system but I believe that the result is one that’s not bad and it’s not good. Were we perfect? No. Were we bad? Also no.
Can I ask you about your decision to leave Carlos Vinicius out of the squad today, was it an injury?
It was a tactical decision. We went with two strikers on the pitch. We had Dele, we had Gareth Bale, we had Lamela and Lucas to eventually come into these two positions of mobility and we decided to leave Carlos out but not injured. Only two play
