Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will be happy for Sergio Aguero if he decides to stay in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola said: “My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us. All of us wish for Sergio to find the best for the last years in his career, for sure. We’ll be delighted with the decision he takes, the best for him and his family and his career.”
Guardiola remains hopeful that Aguero will have a part to play in the final two months of the campaign but much will depend on how fit the striker can stay; he started at Leicester last weekend but was substituted just after the hour mark after feeling something in his leg and was an unused substitute against Dortmund.
Aguero will bring 10 years at the Etihad to a close this summer after the decision was taken that he will not be offered a new contract, with the 32-year-old given time to decide on his next move. Asked if he would rather Aguero didn’t stay and compete with City on a weekly basis, Guardiola instead said that everyone at the club will be delighted with whatever decision he chooses.
