Everton’s Richarlison claims that Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara couldn’t even look him in the face at the last Merseyside Derby after apparently ignoring his apology.
Richarlison said “The last game I made that challenge on Thiago and got sent off. My goodness. Then I went on Instagram to apologise and such. He only saw it. I said ‘I’m going to delete this message too, since he doesn’t want to reply’. Then I went there and deleted it. He didn’t answer, no. Then there was the derby now, at their home, he didn’t look at my face, I didn’t look at him, either. The game goes on. He ignored the pigeon (Richarlison’s nickname from Brazil). There was a little fight there, which we … here it’s a classic match. It’s the Liverpool derby. We wanted to win, they wanted it too. So we ended up in a little fight there. Just like in every game, I have with one of their players.”
The pair clashed in this season’s first meeting between the two rivals from across Stanley Park as Richarlison was sent off for a challenge on the midfielder in the action-packed 2-2 draw at Goodison Park in October which resulted in the Reds new boy being sidelined with a knee injury until the end of the year. The Blues forward insists he tried to say sorry to the former Bayern Munich star but claims he was snubbed, both online and then in person when the sides met again last month. Richarlison’s early goal put Everton on their way to a 2-0 victory and first win at Anfield since 1999 but he maintains he was unable to resolve matters with the Spain international.
