Jesse Lingard had to wait almost two years to add to his collection of England caps but now has two in four days following his Player of the Match performance against San Marino and his substitute appearance vs Albania on Sunday.
Jesse Lingard said: “I am really pleased, I just wanted regular football and you know when I play week in and week out it builds confidence and obviously I have been scoring goals and assisting to help my team and it has been amazing and like I say I just want to carry on that run of form now,”
A return to the England fold was one of Lingard’s key aims when he was considering a move to West Ham, a loan deal that Southgate recommended to him, and the Hammer is certainly pleased to be back on the international stage.
Jesse Lingard said: “It feels amazing, it has been a long two years out but I am glad I am back with the boys, they have all welcomed me with open arms and it was an enjoyable game yesterday and it was great to be back on the pitch and putting the England shirt on, it is always a true honour and hopefully I can kick on and carry on my form.”
Back in the international team and the key man at West Ham, Lingard is most definitely making the most of his move to the capital.
Jesse Lingard added: “A lot of people have been going on about ‘have you tried pie and mash?’ ‘Have you tried pie and mash with the liquor?’ and unfortunately I have not tried it yet but I think as soon as the international break is done I will be going back to West Ham and having pie, mash and liquor and I’ll let you know my thoughts on that.”
