Thomas Tuchel admits he will “have to find solutions” ahead of the second leg of Chelsea’s Champions League Round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid after losing Mason Mount and Jorginho to suspension. Tuchel admitted after Chelsea’s victory in Romania that he will have to find solutions to the duo’s absences.
Thomas Tuchel said: “We knew before the game [there was that risk]. One player, I think Mason, got their yellow card very early and then unfortunately Jorgi made a tactical foul which at that moment for unfortunately necessary. So we will have to find solutions, but there are many games between now and the second leg. We play Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton so on. So we will find a solution when it is time for it.”
Chelsea’s first-leg victory was secured thanks to a wonderful overhead kick from Olivier Giroud, who has now scored six times in the Champions League this season.
Thomas Tuchel said: “He can be proud of his goal. I am super happy for my players that we had such a big reward and we can read it on the scoreline, that we have the result for the top performance. It was very important that we are absolutely concentrated over all 96 minutes and we accept that it is hard to create chances. It was a very good team effort.”
