Martin Keown has admitted that it would be a “real shame” if Gareth Bale does not get back to his best at Tottenham.
Martin Keown said: “If you are a player who cannot go 100%, he seems that he is playing within himself. [Jose] Mourinho has tried to protect him. Clearly, he has an injury problem. They have had a scan on it and it doesn’t seem to be going away. I sincerely hope he can get fit again. This is an Arsenal man sitting here saying it, by the way, because I want to see Gareth Bale at his best. To be denied that it’s a real shame. If it is an injury problem then it’s a frustration.”
It has been a difficult spell for the Welshman after returning to north London, with the 31-year-old playing just 16 times since rejoining Spurs on loan from Real Madrid back in September. He has struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho, scoring four goals in all competitions, but only once in the Premier League, having found himself regularly on the bench.
