Ahead of the big clash in the premier league that week, Arsenal’s manager George Graham sparked a huge controversy by saying that the golden days of Liverpool dominating the English game had gone and it was never going to happen again.

Arsenal had been one of the teams who had benefitted from Liverpool’s decline and the Arsenal boss was in no mood to make life easy for his counterpart Graeme Souness. Souness had been facing the sack after burning bridges with most of the people inside the club and then enduring a terrible season where they were already out of all the cup competitions and were hovering around mid-table in the league.
