Joe Willock has teased Newcastle United fans that he can’t wait to score more goals for the club after netting on his debut on loan from Arsenal. The Gunners midfielder scored the opening goal as Newcastle United beat Southampton 3-2 at St James’ Park, with Willock finding the net from a pull-back from Allan Saint-Maximin. And Willock has spoken of his delight at helping Newcastle to victory at St James’ Park, with the Arsenal loanee adding that he hopes his goal will be the first of many during his loan spell.
Joe willock said: “I told Maxi (Saint-Maximin), ‘when you get past the full-back, cut it back to the edge of the box & I’ll be there’. That’s exactly what he did, I was there to finish it, I was delighted and I can’t wait to get more.”
Willock made the move to Newcastle in search of more first team opportunities, having only featured 17 times for Arsenal in all competitions this season. In those 17 games, Willock netted three goals, all of which came in the Europa League. Indeed, he has only scored once in the Premier League for the Gunners in 40 appearances. But now, after equalling that tally in his first game for Newcastle, he is hopeful of adding more goals to his game and it could soon be the case that he has scored more goals in the top flight for the Magpies than he has for his parent club.
