Manchester United return to Premier League action against Southampton on Tuesday night after the January transfer window closed. Amad Diallo was United’s only addition in the winter window, with his transfer from Atalanta, announced back in the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trimmed his squad with a host of players leaving on loan in search of regular first-team football.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “We will make a decision on Amad in the week [on] what he does at the weekend – if he’s in our squad. It depends on many factors, if we have injuries or COVID. You never know, but he might be playing on Friday, yeah. I will make a decision on Thursday.”
United outcast Marcos Rojo has sealed his departure from the club, leaving to join Boca Juniors, but Sergio Romero’s future remains unclear.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Both of them have contracts until the summer and they’re not going to be extended. So we’re looking for them to find clubs.”
Romero did spend time in his native Argentina over the festive period but is now back in training amid uncertainty over his future. He remains omitted from United’s Premier League squad and could still leave despite the English transfer window closing. The Argentinean window closes later this month with other windows around the world also still open.
