Kean Bryan says now is the time for him to ‘step up and show what he can do’ after starring in the 2-1 victory at Old Trafford yesterday. The defender has been brought in from the cold this season and has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He scored the opening goal in last night’s famous Sheffield United victory when he headed home John Fleck’s corner on 23 minutes to shock the home side. And he says his first Premier League goal combined with the venue and timing makes it a special moment he will never forget.
Kean Bryan said “It was special and a proud moment for me and my family to score my first Premier League goal,” he said. An amazing experience. A lot of my family are United fans from down the road, so it’s a very special day for me. The gaffer said before we came here to believe and fight for each other and that’s what we did. We worked on the set-piece routine in the morning. We wanted to get around the keeper and make it difficult for him and, fortunately, it fell to me and went in. It’s a happy dressing room, but I am sure it will be back to the drawing board preparing for a big game at the weekend and then the next game against West Brom at home. It’s a very harsh schedule at the moment but we need to recover and then go again at the weekend.”
Having arrived in the summer of 2018 to add competition to Jack O’Connell, a number of injuries meant he had slipped down the pecking order. He spent the second part of last season on loan at Bolton but O’Connell being out for the season and the current injury list has opened the door for Bryan to feature. It’s an opportunity he has taken and he now says he wants to show everyone at Sheffield United what he can do.
Kean Bryan said “It’s been difficult for me to break into the team. I am behind Jack O’Connell, who is a fantastic player, and it was difficult with the team doing so well last year. But I am just thankful that there has been an opportunity to get some game time. We all know how good O’Connell is, but it’s now time for me to step up and show what I can do.”
