Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Joel Matip picked up an ankle ligament injury in Liverpool’s win over Spurs. Klopp has now confirmed that the 29-year-old, who has endured a torrid time through injury in recent seasons, has suffered a potentially serious issue.
Jurgen Klopp said “We scored goals in the right moments, wonderful goals, the right people scored the goals, so it was all good apart from Joel Matip. It looks like something serious with Joel to be honest.”
Fabinho missed Liverpool’s victory over Spurs due to a minor muscle injury. Doubts were raised by fans pre-match after he was pictured sitting out of a training session for the Reds ahead of the contest. Their fears were confirmed when Fabinho was absent from the squad to face Spurs, with Matip and Jordan Henderson playing in defence. Speaking pre-match, Klopp said it was an injury that could not be helped.
Jurgen Klopp said “Actually it was nothing really. He just felt something so we had to take him out. Now he’s out. It wasn’t in a challenge or in an intense situation or anything. It’s just how things happen. It is how it is.”
