Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was left with mixed feelings after his side had booked their FA cup fifth round place – sadness for the personal tragedy of Andrei Kanchelskis.
The United boss described the trauma of Kanchelskis, who was forced to miss the match on his 24th birthday after his pregnant wife had lost their baby in the hospital.
Alex Ferguson said “There was no way we could consider him playing in those circumstances. It was one of those very sad things.”
But he was really pleased with his side’s progress regardless and delighted for his teenage match-winner Ryan Giggs.
