Harry Maguire disagreed with the notion that Liverpool’s center-backs were their weakness versus Manchester United. The United captain lauded auxiliary Liverpool defenders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson who, along with goalkeeper Alisson, kept Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at bay in the 0-0 Anfield draw. United ended the game feeling disappointed not to have taken all three points after two big late chances were spurned, but remain top of the Premier League by two points.
Harry Maguire said: “There’s a lot of talk about the first choice centre-halves but they’ve had a great defensive record ever since they’ve had all these injuries. So it just shows they’ve got lots of options there. Jordan [Henderson] has gone in there. I’ve played with him numerous times and he can play in there. I think you can see from our performance here, compared to how it was last year — when it was a tight, edgy game last year but we weren’t brave at all, we were timid and didn’t play on the front foot. But in the second half today we had the intensity to go and win the game, which shows how far we’ve come. We’re not getting carried away. There’s a lot of improvement we’ve got to do as well, so we’ll work hard and get on the training pitch.”
