Manchester United may have gone back to the top of the premier league but Alex Ferguson was furious after their 3-1 victory over QPR at Loftus Road. Injuries to Paul Parker, Denis Irwin, and Mark Hughes caused the United boss to see red and storm out of a press conference when questions became too incisive over his first-half touchline row with Rangers boss Gerry Francis and a half time lecture from referee.
Fergie turned on his inquisitors with a flash of football’s most famous temper and called them “a pain in the ass”. Hughes had to be carried from the pitch to have nine stitches. At one point in time, Ferguson was so incensed that a police officer and a steward had to gently restrain him.
