David de Gea insists there is a growing belief in the Manchester United dressing room that they can win silverware this season. De Gea made five saves in United’s 1-0 win over Wolves that took them to within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool. Despite competition from England international Dean Henderson, De Gea is still United’s first-choice goalkeeper and has only sat out two league games this term. De Gea, 30, says it is ‘beautiful’ to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer squad rotation.
David De Gea said “Yeah, I feel very confident, to be honest, I feel well. I am happy every time I can help the team like today, make some big saves to keep the clean sheets. The whole team I think we played a good game so, yeah, I’m really happy. We have a big squad. We trust in every player. If we make changes it’s because we believe in our players. The whole squad is ready to play so it’s really good to see when players play one game, play well, then rest, then they play again. It’s beautiful to see how players are ready to play. Of course, I think there’s belief, You have to believe, keep believing all the time. But at the same time we have to be calm because this is a long way to finish, many games to come. We have to be very focused on Aston Villa and then to the next game and then to the next game. Massive win for us, especially with the late goal in the last minutes, It was a tight game but, well, they are a good team, difficult to create chances against them. But we keep trying until the end. We have the big goal from Rashy so it’s good for us. Now we are in the second position in the table so just we focus on the next game and try to recover as soon as possible. I think we have now a winning mentality and this is very important for the team. All of us we want to win, we keep trying until the end. The manager wants us to try until the end. It was great to see the team trying to score until the last minute and then we scored a goal so it’s perfect for us. We have a massive three points and then now try to recover as soon as possible and be ready for the next game. I think we need to keep the level that we are showing on the last games. We are playing to win every game now so it’s beautiful to see the team playing to win, trying to create chances, to score goals. At the moment we feel very strong, very confident so now we have to start 2021 like we finished this year – with confidence, strong, with a winning mentality and game by game like we play a final (of the) cup every game so let’s go for it. Today was a big performance and a massive, massive three points to keep believing in what we are doing. We focus just now on Aston Villa. Woof! I was lying on the pitch, He’s one of the strongest players in the Premier League, so it was very painful in my arm, in my stomach but it was fine. We win the game, so everything’s fine. I feel very well. It was just when I hit Traore it was painful, I can’t breathe, but it was fine. It was fine.”
