Brendan Rodgers said his team “played young” and were guilty of mistakes in a match Fulham deserved to win on Monday. Leicester manager admitted that his side made a lot of mistakes and it was always going to be very difficult to come back after a dreadful first half.
Brendan Rodgers said “We’re disappointed with that to be honest. Our counter-pressing and the mistakes we made in the first half gave us an uphill climb for the second half. In the second half we had a lot more of the ball, but lacked creativity. We made a go of it with Harvey’s goal at the end, but I thought Fulham deserved to win it. They had more energy in the first half and pounced on our mistakes, which was disappointing, and then in the second half, they dropped in deep and we couldn’t break them down. So it was a disappointing evening for us. We knew whatever system Fulham played, they’d be compact and tight in their half of the pitch. They understand we’ve got speed and can threaten the backline. In the first half, the speed in our game and the creativity in our game wasn’t there, but more importantly, that defensive counter-press wasn’t there, so the two moments they broke out in the first half, we make a mistake, try to press the ball and it gets played in behind, and then the second one they get out and we make a rash challenge.”
