Brendan Rodgers confirmed Leicester City ace James Maddison suffered an injury in their Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Aston Villa. The 23-year-old played a full 90 minutes in City’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday night, but limped off at the full-time whistle.

Amongst transfer speculations with a swap including Jessie Lingard to Manchester United, Maddison could yet return ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Southampton, but fans are fearing he might miss out, which could prove pivotal against a resurgent Saints side who have won three of their last five games. With Wilfred Ndidi sidelined until next month with a knee injury, City will be hoping Maddison’s problem is only a minor one as they continue to battle away towards the top of the Premier League.

The attacking midfielder James Maddison was purchased by Leicester for upwards of £25million from Championship outfit Norwich City in June 2018. A disappointing mid-table finish for the Canaries had belied Maddison’s exceptional contribution throughout the campaign, registering 14 goals and eight assists that saw him being granted a place in the Championship Team of the Year, and of course his move to the Premier League. Maddison had no Premier League experience when he joined City from Norwich in a £22m move in the summer of 2018, but the attacking midfielder adapted terrifically, and has nine goals and nine assists in 43 top-flight games.
