Frank Lampard has delivered an update on his team news ahead of Chelsea’s game against Newcastle United this weekend. The Blues can go top of the Premier League table, albeit only potentially for a few hours, with victory over the Magpies in the lunchtime kick-off at St James’ Park. After what seems like a long international break, Lampard will be keen to get back out on the pitch for a top flight game. But he looks set to be without a couple of key players. The international break is always fraught with injury issues and the Covid-19 pandemic has only heightened problems as players return to their clubs, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal all hit by positive results. Chelsea were without Kai Havertz for the win over Sheffield United, prior to the break, after the German youngster tested positive, but Lampard has confirmed that he will return for the Blues this weekend.
Frank Lampard said: “Pulisic is not fit for Newcastle but has stepped up his training. Havertz is back, isolation is over and tested negative so trained two days ago to get individually his fitness back. Silva has just landed, he probably won’t go to Newcastle because of the journey. We’re still waiting on some Covid testing. Unfortunately some are arriving back this afternoon, so with the 12.30pm kick off it brings a lot of challenges.”
