Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is fast becoming one of the most watched teams of the Premier League era. The Reds were crowned Champions League winners in June. More glory followed with Super Cup victory over Chelsea in August as well as Club World Cup triumph last week.
New data released by Sky Sports shows the Reds are currently one of the biggest draws for football fans. In a list released by the broadcaster, the current world champions have taken part in two games which have been included in the top five. Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in October was the fourth most watched top flight game of all-time. Earlier this month, 6.6 million tuned into the BBC’s coverage as Liverpool defeated Flamengo 1-0 in the Club World Cup final.
The top two games were Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United in April 2003 which was viewed by a mammoth 3.43 million people. Man City’s 1-0 win over local rivals Man United in April, 2012 saw an audience of 4.04 million watch on. City later went on to claim the title with Sergio Aguero’s iconic last minute winner against Queens Park Rangers.
