Manchester United and Denmark keeper Peter Schmeichel was voted fifth in the European Footballer of the year list. Holland and AC Milan star Marco Van Basten is named the European Footballer of the year for the third time. That equated the record of France’s Michel Platini and another great Dutchman, Johan Cruyff.
