Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hit back at critics of the way he’s handled Manchester United’s new signings this season. The United boss has received flak from fans and pundits about Donny van de Beek’s playing time, with the Dutchman yet to make a start in the Premier League for his new club. Edinson Cavani is also awaiting a start of any kind, while Alex Telles featured in United’s 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain but has been sidelined with coronavirus since. Solskjaer had previously seen near-instant success with signings like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire but admitted this batch of summer signings need time to bed in.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said “First of all, I’m not worried about any credit that I’m getting or not getting [for signing players], That’s not my job to get credit or not for that. But different players take different time to adapt. Some players walk straight into a team and it’s like they’ve never been apart. Some players might need a bit of time to gel. That’s just different circumstances. I think we’ve signed well, I’m very happy with the signings we’ve made, I think all of them have made an impact. They are players we’ve targeted for a little while and I’m happy with them. You want competition for places and you want players to know that there’s someone who can take my place. And you want players who can cope with that pressure, which you have to do if you’re part of Man United. Telles played really well in Paris and I think Luke has also played really well the last few games.”
