Brighton boss Graham Potter praised West Bromwich Albion’s business in the summer transfer market ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash. Albion travel to the Amex Stadium in search of a first top-flight win after taking two points from their opening five matches with draws against Chelsea and Burnley. Brighton, meanwhile, only have a single victory to their name despite – like West Brom – showing glimpses of real quality at points. And Potter revealed the Baggies’ business during the summer, when against a restricted budget nine signings were completed including the four loanees from last season returning, impressed him.
Graham Potter said “They have strengthened from their promotion and they have the right to be here. I think it is not easy in these times to strengthen. Good players are wanted by lots of people, that is the challenge. They are fighting to get points in the league, they have picked up a couple of draws against Chelsea and Burnley, so they are here on merit and they are fighting to stay in the Premier League. They have got an experienced manager, a really good club, I like West Brom a lot. They strike me always as a good football club, with a good fanbase and good people around the club and they will be desperate to do well and stay in the league. We’re at home so there is a slight advantage. I have always thought that the crowd is the real defining factor in terms of what’s an advantage or not. That’s not to say that sometimes a home crowd can turn against the home team because that can happen as well but I think generally the crowd… Why Anfield is Anfield is not because of the changing room or grass, it’s because of the supporters. That’s what we’re all missing and we’re all having to deal with. The longer it goes the more concerning it is for football in general but as coaches and players there’s not a lot we can do about it and just have to try and get on with it as best we can.”
