Chris Wilder says Sheffield United’s own injury problems will affect them more than what losing Virgil van Dijk will do for Liverpool. United head to Anfield on Saturday night looking for a positive result to really spark their season into life. They find themselves second bottom of the league with just one point, but Wilder says they will board the bus with the belief they can get something.
Chris Wildersaid “The obvious ones from over last couple of weeks – Jack O’Connell out for the season, Lys Mousset is looking to get back on the grass, but will be another six to eight weeks away. John Fleck out for the next month – three big players for us missing, so we are disappointed in that. It’s all relative – us losing JOC, Fleck and Mousset are huge blows to us and bigger to us than them losing Virgil Van Dijk. We all have to go through these situations and there are still some world-class players there, some really good players who can fit into that. They have still got those three at the top of the pitch who can hurt anyone on their day. Players out injured always affects consistency and rhythm. I am not sure it will affect them because of the world-class players to come in. We all want our best players out there, it doesn’t make it any easier with those players missing, there will be players who can step into the shape of the team and the performance level didn’t dip yesterday against Ajax and it won’t do on Saturday.”
