Marcus Rashford praised Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for their performances in Manchester United’s win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Rashford said Wan-Bissaka and Telles had defended ‘unbelievably’ in the French capital.
Marcus Rashford said “It was a good performance and we have a lot to build on. I always believed in the team. As players, it’s important to believe in the system the manager choses for us to play and today we did that fantastically. It was difficult at times, especially late on it was tough but we kept the intensity high. We had to defend in the low block at times. They have some unbelievable players. Neymar, Mbappe and [Angel] Di Maria. In the low block it can be tough but the full-backs defended unbelievably. When we defend like that, man to man, we can do great things. Every game requires different tactics and a slightly different performance. The intensity and mentality needs to stay the same. The intensity was key for us tonight. We’re very happy.”
Alex Telles made his first United appearance after signing from Porto on deadline day, starting at left wing-back with Luke Shaw moving into a back three as Harry Maguire missed out due to injury. United took the lead through Bruno Fernandes but Anthony Martial’s own goal levelled the scores in the second-half. Rashford was the hero once again at the Parc des Princes, firing a low shot past Keylor Navas in the 87th minute to secure a well-deserved win. Telles looked assured on his debut, offering support to the back three while remaining a threat to the PSG defence. Equally, Wan-Bissaka was at his brilliant best helping Axel Tuanzebe keep Kylian Mbappe quiet on the opposite flank.
