Tottenham Hotspur can win the Premier League this season, according to former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

Harry Redknapp, who managed Tottenham from 2008 until 2012, believes if anyone is to “upset” the top two of Liverpool and Manchester City this season, then Spurs would be his bet. Last season’s top two both didn’t win at the weekend, with the Reds – who were the 2019-20 champions – being thrashed 7-2 at Aston Villa. Meanwhile, City were held at Leeds United to a 1-1 draw, carrying on their disappointing start to the campaign.

Harry Redknapp said “I think they’ll make the top four, I think they could even win the league this year. I know people are gonna say I’m crazy, but I look at that squad, it looks like it could be an open year. Look at the results this weekend. That is some squad they’ve got, every position, they’re strong. It’s a really powerful squad. I think if anyone upsets the big two, you’ve got to fancy Tottenham. You go through that team – have a look at that squad – that forward line; Son, Harry Kane, Bale, you’ve got Dele Alli. Look at the strength in depth they’ve got. The midfield, full of midfielders. Defensively, two left-backs, two right-backs. I think Tottenham are a danger to anybody in that league this year.”

Harry Redknapp’s son, Jamie Redknapp didn’t agree with him, however.

Jamie Redknapp’s said: “I can’t back you up on this one, dad. If Bale, Son and Kane hit it off. Gareth Bale is not silly, he’s coming back and he’s putting his reputation on the line. He knows what he can do, if they can get him to the level he was at when he was under Villas-Boas, his first two years at Real Madrid, we’ve got one of the greats back in the Premier League.”

Jose Mourinho’s side have enjoyed a tremendous transfer window – bringing in Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vinicius and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Gareth Bale isn’t even fit yet, and is expected to make his second debut with Spurs after the upcoming international break. It’s been a strong start for Spurs as well, picking up seven points from four games, but winning comprehensively in two matches. The north London side dispatched Southampton 5-2 at St. Mary’s last month before an even more impressive 6-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford at the weekend.
