Manchester City is gearing up to release a highly anticipated documentary that promises to provide an in-depth look at the club’s recent transformative period. The series will cover key events such as Kevin De Bruyne’s emotional departure, the arrival of new talent, and the climax of last season, including a crucial clash with Arsenal and the FA Cup final. The documentary is directed by Academy and BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, alongside City Studios’ John De Caux. Produced by Kevin Macdonald for Plan B/KM Films, and Gavin Johnson and Ged Doherty for City Studios, the series is set to be a comprehensive account of an era-defining moment for the club.
Gavin Johnson said: “We’re incredibly proud to be announcing this documentary series today that offers a new insight to Manchester City and surpasses the scale of other documentaries we’ve done before. It wouldn’t be achievable without the hard work, trust and collaboration that our City Studios’ embedded crew have built over the last few years with the players, manager, football staff and club executives. It has been fantastic to work with Kevin MacDonald and Plan B/KM Films on this series and it is great endorsement for the level of our productions that we are now able to gain interest and recognition from those at the very top of the industry. We hope Manchester City fans and sports documentary enthusiasts enjoy the series.”
The documentary is expected to be released either this month or next, though an exact date has yet to be confirmed. It is billed as ‘the ultimate account of an emotional farewell that marks the end of an era.’ This production is set to be Manchester City’s most ambitious yet, aiming to provide fans with a unique perspective on the club’s internal dynamics and the significant changes that have taken place.
The involvement of Kevin Macdonald, a filmmaker known for his exceptional storytelling, is a testament to the project’s high aspirations. His collaboration with City Studios is expected to bring a level of cinematic quality that will appeal not only to Manchester City fans but also to sports documentary enthusiasts worldwide. The series is anticipated to set a new benchmark for sports documentaries, offering a blend of emotional storytelling and behind-the-scenes insights.
