Leighton Baines
Leighton Baines, the former Everton player turned coach, has been honored with induction into Everton’s prestigious Hall of Fame. This accolade recognizes his significant contributions both on and off the pitch, marking yet another milestone in his enduring relationship with the club. Baines’ journey with Everton began in the club’s academy, and despite a brief departure, he returned to make a lasting impact as a player and now as a coach.
Leighton Baines said: “I’ve been incredibly lucky to find my way back to this football club as a player. I’m incredibly lucky and really happy that I was able to give my best playing years to this football club.”
Baines’ career at Everton is marked by 420 appearances over 13 seasons, during which he scored 39 goals, many of which were memorable efforts from set-pieces. His journey from player to coach saw him take on the role of Under-18s head coach in October 2021. His leadership skills were further recognized when he stepped up to lead the first team alongside club captain Seamus Coleman during a transitional period in January 2025, following Sean Dyche’s departure.
Leighton Baines continued: “The privilege now is mine that people looked after me and kept me in the building when I finished playing. And I take that responsibility seriously and I’ve applied myself the best I can… It’s been a great 18 months for me. I wasn’t trying to be in a first-team environment in any way. And then things changed here. And I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Baines’ influence at Everton extends beyond his on-field contributions. His commitment to the club has been evident in his efforts to bring back former manager David Moyes, showcasing his dedication to Everton’s success. Moyes’ return to the club was facilitated by Baines and Coleman, who visited Moyes at his home to persuade him to rejoin the club. Subsequently, Moyes promoted Baines to the first team staff, acknowledging his potential and contributions.
Baines’ induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his dedication and impact at Everton. His journey from a promising academy player to a respected coach reflects his unwavering commitment to the club. As he continues to contribute to Everton’s future, Baines remains a cherished figure among fans and peers alike.
