Leeds United, having finished the previous season in 14th place, are setting their sights on strengthening their squad with strategic signings. The club is prioritizing the acquisition of a new striker, defender, and goalkeeper to bolster their ranks. Interest in players such as Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi and Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott highlights Leeds’ ambition to compete at a higher level.
Francesco Farioli said: “He had a good opportunity to move to the Premier League in January. I had a conversation with him about what he wanted because he didn’t have many minutes in the first part of the season. His response was clear. He said he was happy to stay and have a role in the team.”
Sanusi, who remains under contract with Porto until 2027, has been a consistent performer with 154 appearances, contributing eight goals and three assists. Leeds’ interest in the 28-year-old left-back could be reignited as they seek defensive reinforcements. Meanwhile, the club is also monitoring Harvey Elliott, who is set to return to Liverpool following an underwhelming loan spell at Aston Villa.
Stefan Borson said: “The price tag is ‘worth a go’ for Elliott, with £25m ‘achievable’ for a team with a tight transfer budget.”
Elliott’s potential departure from Anfield, valued at £25 million, presents an opportunity for Leeds to secure a young talent seeking regular game time. This aligns with the club’s strategy to invest in promising players who can contribute to their long-term goals.
Additionally, Leeds are reportedly interested in Shakhtar Donetsk’s goalkeeper, who impressed with 22 clean sheets last season. As Shakhtar reached the semi-finals of the Conference League, the shot-stopper has caught the attention of several clubs, including Leeds, as they look to enhance their goalkeeping options.
Another name on Leeds’ radar is Danilho Doekhi, a free agent from Union Berlin. His consistent performances, playing every minute last season and scoring seven goals, have attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Germany. Leeds could capitalize on his free agency status to secure a cost-effective defensive addition.
The club is also keeping tabs on the Championship’s top scorer, whose 23 goals for Swansea have drawn interest from Leeds, Sporting CP, and Benfica. Despite signing a new deal with Swansea, the Slovenian international’s valuation could rise, with Swansea demanding at least £15 million. Leeds’ pursuit of these players underscores their commitment to building a competitive squad capable of challenging for higher honors in the Premier League.
