Rob Edwards
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards expressed his disappointment following the team’s inability to secure a victory against Burnley on the final day of the season. Despite a promising start, Wolves were unable to maintain their momentum, allowing Burnley to equalize in the second half through Zian Flemming.
Rob Edwards said: “We certainly looked really dangerous in the first half, got off to a great start, and could have had one or two more. There were a couple of great saves from the goalkeeper, but we weren’t able to take advantage of some of those good moments and chances that we had.”
Rob Edwards continued: “After that, we started the second half really poorly. I thought the game became a bit of a basketball game at that point and then obviously our goalkeeper started to make a few really good saves.”
Reflecting on the overall season since his arrival, Edwards acknowledged the challenges faced by the team. Despite these difficulties, he noted a positive aspect in the team’s performance during the latter half of the season.
Rob Edwards remarked: “It’s been tough. It’s been challenging. But it’s been nothing different to what I expected it to be, to be honest. I think we’ve taken 18 points from the second half of the season, which would have you there or thereabouts in the shake-up [across the entire season]. In really challenging circumstances, I think it’s been good.”
Rob Edwards added: “Obviously once the relegation was confirmed, it’s probably made things dim a little bit and seem a little bit more negative. But overall, yes, a big, big challenge.”
The match against Burnley encapsulated the season’s struggles for Wolves, where moments of promise were overshadowed by inconsistencies. The team’s inability to capitalize on their early dominance against Burnley mirrored their broader season narrative. Edwards’ reflections highlight the difficulties faced by the club, especially after relegation was confirmed, casting a shadow over the season’s achievements. Despite the setbacks, Edwards remains optimistic about the team’s resilience and potential for future success.
