Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi, the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, has affirmed his commitment to the club regardless of the outcome of their crucial final game of the season. As Tottenham faces a pivotal match that could determine their Premier League status, De Zerbi emphasized his dedication to the team, even if they face relegation.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “For me, it’s still an honour to be a coach for Tottenham, even if on Sunday we play for the relegation fight, it’s not a problem. I consider football something more than the table, than the level of the game.”
De Zerbi addressed concerns from some supporters who feared he might leave if Tottenham were relegated, despite his recent five-year contract. He reassured fans of his commitment to the club, highlighting the importance of staying positive and maintaining confidence among the players.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “No, absolutely false. No, no, no, it’s not true. Maybe [it’s] totally different, maybe they suffered too much. Their reaction has been not right, but not for that reason because they are sensitive guys and they suffered that situation. Maybe they didn’t know how they can go out of this situation, but there is just one solution to go out: to be strong, stronger than the atmosphere of the situation, or the injuries, or the negative things they suffer.”
De Zerbi emphasized the need for unity and resilience, stating that the team has the quality to overcome the challenges they face. He urged his players to focus solely on the upcoming match against Everton, considering it a significant opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “The situation is like this, we have to accept it. We are playing well. We deserve to stay up but we have another step, and a very tough step but it’s possible for us. Nothing is impossible. We have the quality to win. Before Villa Park I said it’s not impossible to win the game because I felt this.”
In preparation for the match, De Zerbi decided that the team would stay together at the club’s Hotspur Way hotel, The Lodge, to foster a supportive atmosphere. He also called for fan support, encouraging them to welcome the team warmly as they arrive at the stadium.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “It was my decision because I thought to stay together the day before, to prepare the meeting the day before, the morning of the game and to create the right atmosphere. If the fans show their love to the players, it is not pressure, it is an honour, it is a great thing for the players.”
De Zerbi’s tenure at Tottenham has been marked by challenges, including injuries to key players. Despite these setbacks, he remains optimistic about achieving their goal of staying in the Premier League. He acknowledged the pressure of the situation but expressed confidence in his players’ ability to handle it.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “The secret I think is to manage the pressure. Just that. To manage the pressure you have to be clear and honest with yourself. The level of difficulty of the game is high, OK. We are fighting for something very important for everyone. But it is football. But we have enough quality. But we play in our stadium.”
As Tottenham prepares for their decisive match, De Zerbi’s leadership and commitment to the club will be crucial in navigating the challenges ahead. The outcome will not only determine their league status but also test the resilience and unity of the team under his guidance.
